The Copiah County Courier has been authorized to make the following announcement for Ron Sims, candidate for Hazlehurst Alderman Ward 2:
“My name is Ronald (Ron) Sims, Ward 2 City Aldermen for the great city of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. I want to thank you for allowing me to serve as your Alderman for the last 8 year. It has been my honor to serve as your voice on the City Board of Alderman, and on state and national boards. Would you please consider keeping me on the job and vote Ronald (Ron) Sims on May 2, 2017?
“On the City Board, I have worked with the other members to bring reduced rates to each household waste bill by $6.00 each month. I was the board member who recommended that the city start using Fuelman cards to purchase fuel. This program reduces the abuse, and possible abuse of fraud by all our employees. I am, also, the board member who reviews the claim docket each month to make sure that, we, the city is not violating state biding and buying practices. These are just a few things that you need to be aware.
“I am a member of Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church, where I serve as Treasure and member of the United Methodist Men, and currently serving on the United Methodist Conference Brookhaven District Committee on Ministry. I am a Tougaloo College alumnus, class of 1979. I am the husband of Sonya Hines Sims, proud father of Sheene’ J. Sims and Ronald Byron Sims, and grandfather of Sydnee Bryant.
“On the state level, I have served on the Mississippi Municipal League Board of Directors, completed the three levels (Basic, Advance and Professional) of professional education, more than 144 hours training, in just 5 years. On a national level, I promoted the city on my trips to Washington DC, and visited with Congressional leadership at no cost to the city. These visits helped with the city receiving grants and federal funds for soil conservation issues. Because of these visits, Congressman Bennie Thompson and I have developed a great relationship.
“I serve on a National Board of Directors for America Traffic Safety Service Association (ATSSA) in Fredericksburg, VA, and am the only member from the great State of Mississippi. This is my second 2-year term to serve.
“In my travel, I promote Hazlehurst. Our music museum, the birthplace of Blues Legend Robert Johnson and the Rockin Railroad Festival is what I talk about. People always want to know where I am from and I proudly say Hazlehurst.
“I, Ronald (Ron) Sims, humbly ask for your vote on May 2. Please keep Ronald (Ron) Sims working for the citizens of Hazlehurst. Strong leadership in Tough times.”
