Youth Council aids at cemetery
Bill Bush of Hazlehurst makes it a point of putting flags on the graves of Veterans on Memorial Day weekend. This year it seemed more than he could do, so he put out the call. Nora Berch, county tourism director, then called Mayor-elect Shirley Sandifer who immediately agreed to bring her Youth Council Friday morning. The young people, arriving around 8 a.m., immediately began to help Mr. Bush set the flags in place. As they worked Mr. Bush would tell them the history of some of the veterans and the helpers listened attentively. Mrs. Berch said, “I have never seen a group more attentive, sincere, and respectful as this group. And their leader, Shirley, led by example, helping as much as they did.” Pictured, along with Sandifer and Bush, are Darion Munson, Tyree Price, Dequavious Howard, Allyson Banks, and Taylor Mitchell.
