Walkway, ABB expansion topics at city board meeting

City officials at their January board meeting were informed that the final arrangements for the walkway from downtown to Chautauqua Park are complete awaiting approval from the Department of Transportation on the grant for the work. Upon receipt of MDOT approval, the mayor was authorized to implement the work order to begin. In additional discussion, the board discussed tentative plans for ABB’s new warehouse and small transformer plant. Plans for a new amphitheater at Chautauqua Park are being advanced to the state level with letters of support. The contract for solid waste service by Waste Management was spread upon the minutes. Formal house to house recycling comes to an end under the new contract and the city is working on alternatives. A garbage dumpster at 306 Harmony Road may be used for recyclable material until new plans are formulated. Officials adjourned for January to meet again February 4 at 6 p.m.
