Medical Center notes progress at February supervisors meeting

SOON GONE – The Veterans of Foreign Wars building, scene of many meetings, dances, and community gatherings, will soon be gone to make room for a clinic which will be leased to the Copiah Medical Center.

Ben Lott, administrator at the Copiah County Medical Center, reported to county supervisors Feb. 3 in their regular monthly meeting that financial progress has been made during 2019 and the facility “broke even” at the end of the year with 34 days cash on hand for operating as required in its charter. There is still some shortfall in the funds for debt service which may be overcome when the audit is complete. The county was notified that it is time for the old Veterans of Foreign Wars building purchased by the hospital to be demolished. A clinic is planned on that site that will be leased to the hospital which will directly address some of the financial concerns. Officials recessed until Monday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. for their tax paying session.
