Estelle Phillips Stegall

Estelle Phillips Stegall, 81, of Crystal Springs, died Thursday, May 7, 2020. A private family service was held at Crystal Springs City Cemetery May 12. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs handled arrangements.
Mrs. Stegall was born May 7, 1939. A Scott County native, she was a 1957 graduate of Morton High School and went on to finish business school in Jackson. She worked at Waterways Experiment Station, first at its original location in Clinton and then in Vicksburg, primarily in the Structures (Concrete) Laboratory. She earned qualifications as a Certified Professional Secretary and served as an officer in local and state chapters of Professional Secretaries International. Upon retirement from Waterways, she was awarded a civilian service achievement medal for her decades of service to the Corps of Engineers. She taught children’s Sunday school for many years and served as the Nursery Preschool Director. She was also active in the Gideons International Auxiliary, as well as Women in the Church at her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melton J. Stegall; parents, Huey Lee Phillips and Geneva Estelle Phillips; brother, Andrew (Bo) Phillips; great-granddaughter, Harper Grace Huffty; and her first husband, William Thomas Worrell.
Survivors include her daughters, Sue Worrell McCool (Randall), of Vicksburg; and Melody Worrell, of Crystal Springs; son, John Stegall, of Wesson; sister, Bonnie Sue Williams, of Copperas Cove, Texas; brother, Arthur Phillips (Marita), of Pontotoc; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her faithful best friend, Freckles.
