Rev. Thomas Earl Murray

Rev. Thomas Earl Murray, 77, of Hazlehurst, died May 25, 2020. Funeral services were held June 1 at St. James M. B. Church with Rev. Elvis Coleburg officiating. Internment was in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Hazlehurst Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Rev. Murray was born Sept. 18, 1942, to Manuel Thomas (Tess) and Nancy Poindexter Murray. He was a 1962 graduate of Parrish High School, where he earned the nickname “Moose Murray” in football. He was an electrician, carpenter, and architect, as well as a pastor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Velma Jackson and Bernita Gatewood.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Murray; sons, Thomas Turner, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Pastor Christopher Sorrells, of Indianapolis, Ind.; Tommie Murray, of Forney, Texas; Ronnie Murray, of Brookhaven; Don Johnson, of McComb; Joe Nelson, of Hazlehurst; Pastor Christopher Pope, of Crystal Springs; Pastor Noah, of Utica; Joe Washington, of Brookhaven; and Walter Murray, of Byram; daughters, Tracey Herron and Carolyn Brown, both of Hazlehurst; Toni Murray and Cynthia Burns, both of Charlotte, N. C.; and Cassandra Williams, of Hazlehurst; brother, George Murray, of Columbus, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
