Percy Burt Young

Percy Burt Young, of Crystal Springs, passed away Sept. 19, 2021, at the age of 79.
Mr. Young was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., in 1942 to Henry Percy Young and Pauline Hemphill Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jimmy Young; and sister Nita Young Grogan.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Young; and sons, Clifton Burt Young (Pamela), Brian Scott Young (Kenneth), and Justin Barksdale Young (Savannah). Mr. Young had five grandchildren, Noah, Kiefer, Bryar, Sara Kate, and Brody. He also leaves behind several cherished and adored nieces and nephews.
He was a longtime resident of Crystal Springs and owner of Crystal Springs Insurance Agency, as an independent insurance agent for 40 years. Mr. Young was active for many years in the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association and served as president of MQHA in 1985. He raised and showed Quarter Horses at his Quarter Circle Y ranch. He served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1971 in the 773rd Engr. Det., Monticello.
He attended Mississippi State University, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Many great memories were made with so many of his friends and family at Tennessee Bar Hunting Club, Alaska, and Colorado. He taught his own sons and grandchildren how to follow in his footsteps as a great sportsman and steward of the land.
As a horseman and showman, he was well known across the southeast as a leader and trailblazer in the Quarter Horse Association and show arenas.
The Young family would like to thank the hospice nurses and nursing staff at Pine Crest Guest Home for their kindness and care.
A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.
