Pearl River Clean Sweep set for Sept. 28

On Saturday, Sept. 28, Pearl River Clean Sweep volunteers will join together in a massive, community-wide effort to clean up our waterways. This river cleanup event includes 25 land and water-based locations from the Pearl River’s headwaters near Philadelphia downriver through the Ross Barnett Reservoir, along the border of Mississippi and Louisiana, all the way to the Gulf Coast. The Sweep also includes locations on the Strong and Bogue Chitto River tributaries. This event will celebrate drinkable, swimmable, fishable water in 15 counties, two parishes, two states, and over 490 miles of beautiful river.

This event engaged more than 4,200 volunteers in the past seven years, removing over 167,000 pounds of trash from our watershed.

“Pearl Riverkeeper is dedicated to protecting the Pearl River watershed because a healthy community starts with a healthy river. Clean and healthy rivers provide everything from clean drinking water to recreation opportunities to fish and wildlife habitat,” said Abby Braman, executive director of Pearl Riverkeeper.

Participants must register ahead of time to take part. Registration is open for all ages at www.pearlriverkeeper.com. An interactive map is available to search locations and details of each cleanup project.
