Many Copiah County residents were without power and water for several days last week as a result of the wintry blast that hit the area. Freezing rain, especially Wednesday night, accumulated on trees, bringing down limbs and trees on power lines and cutting power to pumps on water wells.
According to Copiah County Emergency Management Director Randle Drane, there were power outages across the county and many communities with no water. As of late morning Tuesday, Drane said there were still 1,012 still without power in the county, and water has been restored in most areas. However, boil water alerts will still be in place until water systems submit clean samples to and receive certification from the Mississippi Department of Health that the water is safe for drinking.

A Celebration of State, County  and Town History

April 28-29, 2017

The City of Hazlehurst, Keep Copiah County Beautiful, local elected officials and Keep Mississippi Beautiful hosted one the most well-attended Statewide Cleanup Kickoff events ever at Lake Hazle and in downtown Hazlehurst on Saturday, May 19, 2018. 

Hazlehurst and Wesson held Trunk or Treat and Tent or Treat Oct. 31, and saw very large crowds.

The Wesson Christmas parade was held Tuesday, Dec. 4, after a rain delay from Nov. 30.

The Arts Month Kickoff was held Friday, April 5 with lots of fun and entertainment.

Keep Copiah County Beautiful Cleanup was held Saturday, April 6.
