Wesson basketball teams earn sweeps

The Cobras got a rest from the road warrior schedule by beating the Bobcats 49-39.  A little home cooking was all that was needed for senior forward Josh Hart.  Hart added to his growing double-double collection with another monster evening of 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Lonnie Reeves added 10 points while point guard Josh Hood chipped in 5 steals.  Forward Charles Howard added 8 points and 8 boards.
“We must start playing together and stop turning the ball over,” commented Cobra head coach Ron Kessler.  “These guys have so much potential, but we are at a sloppy 4-1 (record).”
Kessler complaints were heard loud and clear as the Cobras kicked the Mize Bulldogs 62-43 Friday evening.  “We played a much more complete game Friday night,” explained Kessler.  “To be successful in our district, all we need is great efforts like tonight.  I am proud of our guys.”
Guard Cody King led the Cobras with 18 points and 4 rebounds.  The 5-1 Cobras got 15 points from Reeves.  Hart and senior forward Matthew Cliburn dominated the glass with 12 rebounds a piece.  Hart blocked 6 shots and added 3 steals while Cliburn chipped in 5 thefts.  The Cobras led the scoring in all 4 quarters.
The Lady Cobras tasted success twice in the week also.  The Lady Cobras beat the perennial 1A powerhouse Lady Bobcats 47-43.  Coach Hugh Webb’s team trailed early on, but battled back to pick up the victory.  Ann Shelby Davis continued her tremendous season of leading the Lady Cobras with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals.  
“Our girls have played well,” commented Kessler.  “Coach Webb has done a great job of getting them ready to play.  They just dominated Mize.”
The Lady Cobras did just that whipping the Lady Dawgs 56-21.  Davis once again led all scorers with 14 points.  She also added 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals to the stat sheet on the evening.  Guard Macie Case chipped in 13 points and 3 steals.  Leah Greer fired in 9 points while fellow post player Kimmie Kolpek yanked down 6 boards.  The 5-3 Lady Cobras are seeing more contributors on a nightly basis which is signs of a young team gelling.  
Both the Cobras and Lady Cobras hit the road to the Hillcrest tourney this week and face Leake Academy in the opening round.  The Leake girls are currently ranked #1 in the state in the MPSA.
