Co-Lin takes two from Jones
WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves scored 10 points in the last 58 seconds to defeat the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats 65-59 in South Division play. The Lady Wolves improve to 13-4 on the season and 4-3 in the South Division.
Sophomore Anthony Wilcher scored 19 points to lead the Wolves over the Bobcats 84-50.
Lady Wolves 65, Lady Bobcats 59
The Lady Bobcats held a 59-58 lead with 22.4 seconds left in the game. Freshman Rhonda Dumas was fouled and hit the first of two free throws to tie the game at 59-all. Sophomore Kristin Ellis grabbed the rebound and hit a jumper to give the Lady Wolves a 61-59 lead with 19 seconds left in the game.
Jones County Coach Sandra Sumrall was assessed a technical foul. Sophomore Shalenia Wilcher hit both technical free throws to push the Lady Wolves lead to 63-59. Co-Lin stole the inbounds pass and freshman guard TeAirra Wilbert was fouled with 10 seconds remaining. Wilbert hit both free throws to secure the Lady Wolves 65-59 victory.
Sophomores Alisha Mason and Kristin Ellis led the Lady Wolves with 15 points apiece. Ellis led off the backboards with 14 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Mason pulled down 8 rebounds and blocked 2 shots. Reisha Bullock was the third Co-Lin player in double figures with 11 points and 6 steals.
Leading Jones with 14 points and 6 rebounds was sophomore Kate Hubbard. Brittany Leverett chipped in 12 points.
Wolves 84, Jones 50
The Wolves (13-4, 7-0) shot a blistering 63 percent from the field and 57 percent from behind the arc. Wilcher, a 6-5 post from McCall Creek, had a career night hitting 5-8 from 3-point range. Co-Lin had a 43-23 lead at halftime.
Freshman guard Trent Hutchin followed Wilcher with 18 points. Corey London chipped in 15 points. Greg Truvillion and freshman Lewanski Newsom led off the boards with 9 and 7 rebounds respectively.
Trenton Marshall led the Bobcats with a game-high 23 points.
