Hazlehurst basketball

Hazlehurst swept two conference games last week, winning both by narrow margins.  The Indians defeated Bailey 51-50 on Tuesday and then dropped rival Crystal Springs 77-70 in overtime on Friday night.

The Indians trailed Crystal Springs 38-35 at halftime, but were able to even the score by the end of regulation at 68-68.  The Indians then outscored the Tigers 9-2 in overtime to secure the win.

Fred Fuller poured in 27 against the Tigers, while Antonio Harris added 21 and Eric Walker 17.  Crystal Springs placed four in double digits, including K. Hillard with 15, J. Tillman with 14, J. Hollins with 12 and N. Johnson with 10.

The Lady Indians also won both of their contests last week.  The team had no trouble with Bailey, notching an impressive 71-40 win.  Against Crystal Springs, the Lady Indians were led by L. Pendleton with 21, Jasmine Jones with 18 and J. Levi with 10 in their 69-55 victory.  The Lady Tigers got 15 from LaTasha Nichols and 14 from R. Powell in the loss.

At the end of the regular season, the playoffs are being played at Collins.  Both Hazlehurst teams faced both teams from Magee at 4 and 5:30 p.m., respectively, on Tuesday night.  The winners are to play either Crystal Springs or Richland on Thursday night at Collins.
