Minor damage, worst should be over

About 100 trees were downed by Gustav in Copiah County, estimates emergency management agency director Randle Drane. The worst of the storm should be gone Tuesday afternoon, but rainy conditions will probably continue for the rest of the week.

Copiah County’s shelters housed a total of 1,625 evacuees over the weekend. Officials in New Orleans and on the Gulf Coast have asked that evacuees not attempt to return home until they have a chance to restore utilities, clear roads, repair damaged traffic lights, etc.
