Protect yourself against thefts during holidays
The number of vehicle burglaries in the City of Hazlehurst has increased lately. Citizens can do a lot to prevent thefts by taking some common sense precautions.
During the holiday season thieves are active, looking for an easy opportunity such as a purse or wallet in an unlocked car, or a bicycle left in a yard. Be sure to lock car doors and remove valuable items from your vehicles, advises Chief Byron Swilley of the Hazlehurst Police Department. Put away bicycles and other items around the house that may be tempting targets for thieves.
“Look at what’s going on outside, and be a helpful neighbor,” added Chief Swilley.
Anyone with information on thefts or any other crime is urged to call the police department at 894-1181, or Crime Stoppers, 1-601-355-TIPS (355-8477) or 1-888-8CRIMES (888-827-4637).
Crime Stoppers wants information, not the names of those who call. Anonymous callers may be eligible for a reward if their information leads to an arrest.
