Baseball Colonels 8-0 so far
If things keep going the way they are, the 2009 edition of the Copiah Academy baseball Colonels will do something special, like win ALL of their games.
Through the first eight games of the season, Copiah has held three opponents scoreless and has limited three others to one run each. Overall, CA has given up only 8 runs, and is 8-0.
In a recent game against Prentiss Christian, hurler Ben Boone, 3-0, no-hit the Saints in five innings during a 16-0 Colonel win. In another game against Prentiss, Scotty Reese, 3-0, allowed only one hit and no runs in a 19-0 win. Russ Singleton has the other two wins for Copiah.
On offense the Colonel bats have been pounding opponents unmercifully, scoring 106 runs in the first eight games. Multiple hit games have been recorded by Jeremy Newman, B. J. Newman, Trevor Blocker, Mitch Little, Ben Boone, Russ Singleton, Scotty Reese, Hunter Renfroe and Bryce Guess.
The Colonels will host Canton Academy on Thursday evening. The JV plays at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m.
Copiah will travel to University Christian School in Brandon on Saturday. At 10 a.m. the JV plays, then at 2 p.m. the varsity takes the field.
Next week, during spring break, Copiah is entered in the Canton tournament held at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson. The Colonels face Pillow Academy on Monday at 11:30 a.m. and Winston on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Lakeland Field in Jackson. Copiah then faces MRA in Smith-Wills stadium at 7:30 on Tuesday evening.
