McComb, MS, March 17, 2009: The Pike County Military Support Group (PCMSG) is organizing a send-off parade for the 1-155th CAB (Combined Arms Battalion). The parade will be a military convoy only. No floats, bands or marchers will be allowed, but we invite the public to participate by watching along the parade route. It will be held in McComb, MS on Monday, April 13 and will start at 11:30 a.m. from the National Guard Armory on West Street. The parade will move east down Delaware Avenue from the Armory then turn South onto Broadway Street and onto Presley Boulevard east. Citizens and Business owners alike are invited to display yellow ribbons, flags and signs of encouragement along the parade route. The 1-155th is being deployed to Iraq for the second time. Their first mission was in 2004 which was the largest deployment of Mississippi Guard Soldiers since World War II.
The Pike County Military Support Group has organized other events like the send-off parade in an effort to raise awareness in the community as well as raise funds that will benefit the soldiers and their families from Pike County during the deployment. The 1-155th CAB is made up of soldiers from 49 communities in the state, from north Mississippi to the Gulf Coast. “Our goal is to serve as a support system for the soldiers and their families during their deployment,” says Bobby R. McDaniel, Pike County Military Support Group chairman.
The PCMSG meets on Mondays at 5:00 p.m. at the McComb National Guard Armory.
