Principals, assistants hired for next year

Derek Martin will take over as principal on the south campus this fall, according to action taken at the most recent meeting of the Hazlehurst School District.

Martin is currently a principal in McComb, reported Hazlehurst interim school superintendent Jay Reeves.

The district will also welcome Joey Herring as technology coordinator. Herring is the former technology coordinator for the Hattiesburg School District and comes highly recommended, Reeves said.

Abby Webley will be the new federal programs director. Webley is a principal from Madison County.

Natasha Mosley will serve as assistant principal at Hazlehurst High School. She currently serves as an assistant principal in McComb.

Adrienne Williams will be the assitant principal at Hazlehurst Middle School. Williams has been working in Hazlehurst with the State Department of Education for several months.

In other business handled during last Wednesday’s regular meeting, Reeves approved the April claims docket totaling $331,548.87. Additional days were added to the district’s contract with Speech Pathology Group. The 2009-2010 school calendar was approved, and a $1,000 donation was accepted from Wal-Mart.

In 16th Section business, Timber Plus was awarded the bid for thinning timber on sections 16-11N-5E, 16-1N-2W, and 16-10N-8E.

All timber bids were rejected for the final harvest on 16-1N-4W for not meeting the minimum requirements, on the recommendation of the district forester. This timber harvest will be rebid in a few months.

Several lease cancellations were routinely approved and the issuance of one residential lease contract was approved.

The High School Improvement Plan SY2008-2010 was approved.

The Hazlehurst School District meets regularly on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. in the district headquarters office across the street from the high school. These meetings are open to the public.
