Sheriff’s deputy David Drum has been presented the Officer of the Year award in recognition of his saving the life of a Dentville Road resident.
Drum’s report on the incident notes that he was on patrol on the Old Natchez Road when Emergency Management notified of a non-responsive, non-breathing male.
Even though Hardy Wilson ambulance had been notified, Drum knew that the time was crucial and he needed to assist.
Upon arrival, he determined that the subject was not breathing and had no pulse. The subject’s wife was advised to “breathe for him” and Drum began chest compression. The subject began to groan and make noises as the Emergency Medical Technicians arrived. Additional deputies arrived and the subject was transported to the hospital. Sheriff deputies transported the subject’s wife to the hospital.
