City seeks grant to improve drainage

The Hazlehurst Board of Aldermen met briefly Tuesday to address three items on the agenda for the special called meeting.

The board set salaries for Gabriel Harvey and Seth Morris in the fire department.

Resignations were accepted from Maurice Richardson and Edgar Ray Dickey in the street department.

The board passed a resolution for the Mississippi Development Authority seeking grant funds for drainage improvement.

Mayor Henry Banks said he and the water department visited the neighborhood of Massengill Street and the surrounding area to view the flooding caused by Monday’s heavy rain. The city is seeking grant funds from MDA to alleviate this situation, according to Banks.

The board meets regularly on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
