Police searching for suspect in Saturday robbery
Hazlehurst police are following all leads in the search for the person that held up a local resident at gunpoint late Saturday evening and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Byron Swilley, Chief of HPD, said that Grady Newman, of 226 South Extension Street, was approached at his home a little after 10:00 Saturday evening by a black male wearing a blue bandanna around his face and brandishing a firearm. After the subject demanded money, Newman handed over two money bags, including a brown one with ‘Hazle Package’ stamped on it, and the subject fled south on Extension Street on foot.
Swilley said that police are relying on information from the public to produce more leads that will result in the arrest of the subject. Anyone with information may call Crimestoppers at 1-888-8CRIMES (1-888-827-4637) or the Hazlehurst Police Department at 601-894-1101. Remember, the authorities don’t want your name, just your information.
“Because we have such little information, we are relying on our community to help us solve this crime,” Swilley added.
