Hazlehurst, Wesson, Copiah all win on Friday night
The Hazlehurst Indians got back in the win column with a hard-fought 19-18 win over rival South Pike in Magnolia on Friday night. The Indians got three rushing TD’s from Leviticus Cain and one extra point from J. James. South Pike scored on a punt return in the first period and registered two rushing TD’s in the second and third quarters, respectively. Unable to convert a PAT, the Eagles fell to 1-1. Hazlehurst improved to 2-1.
In Wesson, the Cobras exploded for 27 points in the second quarter and cruised to a 35-22 win over Bogue Chitto. Wesson got two rushing and one receiving TD from Jeromy Smith on runs of one and three yards and an 18 yard pass from Matt Smith. D. Pendleton had a 51 yard rushing TD, and Ben Allen added a 71 yard kickoff return for the Cobras. The Wesson defense collected another safety, and Austin Graham added three extra points to round out the scoring for the Cobras. Wesson improved to 2-0.
And, in Destin, FL, the Copiah Colonels dropped Rocky Bayou Christian School 41-6 on Friday night. Copiah improved to 2-1. No statistical information was available on Saturday morning.
