Courier earns awards in Better Newspaper Contest

The Copiah County Courier collected one first place, one second and two third place finishes in a variety of advertising categories in the Better Newspaper Contest during the Mid-winter Conference of the Mississippi Press Association this past Friday and Saturday.  

The first place award went to Joe Coates for Best Restaurant Advertisement-Weekly A Division.  The advertisement was placed by Country Catfish and Steakhouse in August of 2009.

The Courier received a second place certificate for Best Pre-Print or Specialty Product-All Weeklies for the 2009 Football Schedule inserts that were printed and inserted in August of 2009.

A third place certificate was earned for Best Grocery or Restaurant Advertisement-Black and White-Weekly A Division for Stark’s Restaurant Ribeye Steak Plate ad on February 11, 2009.

The Courier also earned third place in the prestigious Best Print Quality-Weeklies category.

“We are proud of the awards and for our advertisers, who trust us each week to deliver their unique message in a way that attracts attention and brings in customers,” Coates, publisher and advertising manager of the Courier, said.

Seventeen daily newspapers from the MPA submitted 967 entries to the BNC.  Thirty-one weekly papers submittedd 1,081 entries, for a total of 2,048.  The BNC is a way that the Mississippi Press Association raises money for interships and scholarships for college-age young adults.  This year’s take was around $15,000.
