Budget cuts result in pink slips for 21 school district employees
Conservator Jay Reeves reports that he issued pink slips on Thursday for 21 district employees for the 2010-11 school year.
This includes all state-funded teacher assistants, one school nurse and one tech position.
The positions are being eliminated strictly because of cuts to school funding from the state level.
“We don’t anticipate any further pink slips, but we’re not sure what will happen with the state budget by the end of the year,” Reeves said.
Reeves added that the employees were notified now so they can begin searching for new jobs before the end of the school year. Most of those affected will work through May 24.
The district, like others around the state, has worked through a 10% budget cut this year, and expects another 15% cut in fiscal year 2011, which begins July 1.
