5-12 Copiah vs. Mag Heights

Copiah Academy’s baseball team is one game closer to winning its first-ever state title after the Colonels bludgeoned the Magnolia Heights Raiders 9-2 on Tuesday evening in Gallman.  Copiah, 26-9, will travel to Mag Heights in Senatobia on Thursday for game 2 of the MAIS AAA-Div II state championship series beginning at 5:00.  Game 3 will follow if the Colonels lose.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the second, the Colonels erupted for 7 runs to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.  Copiah added two insurance runs later – one in the 5th and one in the 6th for the final margin.

Six Colonels–Singleton, Bagley, Renfroe, Boone, Little and Blocker–had at least 2 hits each.  Singleton and Bagley each had a double.

Colonel righty Ben Boone pitched another gem, scattering six hits, in picking up his 7th win of the season.
