Lady Colonels beat Parklane twice

The Copiah Academy Lady Colonels scored 3 runs in the top of the sixth and went on to nip the Parklane Lady Pioneers 6-5 in McComb last week.
CA scored once in the top of the second as Kaitlyn Taylor doubled and later came home on a fielder’s choice. The Lady Colonels added 2 more runs in the third. Morgan Brown led off with a single and scored after a couple of passed balls. Kacie Berry reached on an error, took third on a passed ball, and scored after another Parklane error.
In the sixth, Berry and Taylor led off with walks, and Kelly Byrd reached on an error, loading the bases. Kamryn Vanlandingham’s sacrifice fly drove in one run, and Hannah Alfonso’s triple tied the game 5-5. She immediately scored what proved to be the deciding run when the Lady Pioneers threw the ball away.
Meghan Johnson (8-4) was the winning pitcher, striking out 6 while allowing only 5 hits. Brown and Taylor each had a pair of hits for the winners.
On the very next day, the Lady Colonels hosted Parklane in Gallman, where they hung a 6-3 defeat on the Lady Pioneers. Copiah scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first on singles by Morgan Brown and Kamryn Vanlandingham, followed by Kaitlyn Taylor’s 2-out RBI-single and a 2-run single by Kelly Byrd.
After Parklane tied the game, CA scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth. Brown led off with a single and later scored on a passed ball. Vanlandingham singled, Berry reached on an error, and a second run scored on a fielder’s choice. The final run came home on Kelly Byrd’s RBI-single.
Taylor (6-1) was the winning pitcher. Byrd had 3 hits for the winners, while teammates Brown and Vanlandingham each chipped in with a pair of hits.
Copiah’s record is now 15-5, including 5-1 in conference play.
