Former Wolves collect post-season honors

WESSON – Auburn’s Nick Fairley, Oklahoma State’s Andrew Magee and Delta State’s Micah Davis captured post-season football awards.
Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley has won the Lombardi Award as the nation’s top collegiate lineman.
Fairley led top-ranked Auburn’s defense this season with a school-record 21 tackles for losses and was second in the Southeastern Conference with 10½ sacks. He has 55 tackles, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and an interception entering the BCS title game against No. 2 Oregon.
The 6-foot-5 298-pound junior was selected the defensive player of the year on The Associated Press All-SEC team and was named to the Walter Camp All-American Team. Fairley was also a finalist for the Chuck Bednarirk Award as the nation’s best defensive player.
He beat out defensive ends Da’Quan Bowers of Clemson and Adrian Clayborn of Iowa, and TCU center Jake Kirkpatrick for the Lombardi honor.
No. 1 ranked Auburn (13-0) will play for the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Az.
Oklahoma State defensive back Andrew Magee was named First Team All-Big 12 Conference. Magee has 45 tackles, two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and led the Cowboys with five interceptions.
The Cowboys (10-2) will play the University of Arizona in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas on Dec. 29.
Delta State quarterback Micah Davis was a finalist for the 2010 Cellular South Conerly Trophy. Davis is the No. 12 passer in Division 2, completing 63 percent of his passes for GSC co-champion and national championship bound Statesmen. Davis has completed 312 passes for 3,854 yards with 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
Davis has established a new Delta State record for pass completions with 312.
The Statesmen will play the winner of the Northwest Missouri State at Minnesota-Duluth game on Saturday, Dec. 18 at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Ala. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. and the game will broadcast on ESPN2.
