Cobras endure rough week

By Bradley Crow

The Wesson Cobras (8-10) were supposed to use the week off to rest and relax but instead sputtered through a treacherous week that saw them drop two of three games to Lincoln County 1-A groups.

“We didn’t do the things we needed to do to compete,” stated Wesson head coach Seth Lofton.  “We were not focused on getting the job done as a team.”

Wesson 8, West Lincoln 3

The Cobras notched their only win of the week by breaking a  3-3 tie after the fourth inning with a 4-run fifth inning to give Matt Smith the win in a 14 strikeout and two hit performance.

First baseman Pat Boone led the Cobras with two hits and two RBI’s.  Gage Wilson nailed a triple and two RBI’s.  Catcher Paxton Cupit nailed a double and a single while second baseman Kyle Cross doubled.

West Lincoln 5, Wesson 4

The Cobras lost a one run battle to the Bears which tagged hurler Josh Smith with the loss.  Smith struck out one, walked three and gave up seven hits in the contest.

Paxton Cupit led the Cobras with a homerun, double and a single.  Gage Wilson had a double and a single.  Patrick Boone singled for the Cobras.

Bogue Chitto 8, Wesson 2

The Cobras put on an uninspiring performance against the Bobcats as Brice Roberts dominated the Cobras for the victory for Bogue Chitto.

Wesson could not string the hits together as Trey Chassion, Brandon Nettles, Matt Smith, Jacob Fischer, Alex Smith, and Kyle Cross singled.

The Cobras have district action this week with a three game series with Puckett.  Action begins at 4:30 with JV in Wesson on Tuesday.
