Indians earn first-ever sweep of Franklin County

The Hazlehurst Indians swept the Franklin County Bulldogs in what could be the biggest pair of wins in school history.
“We are so excited about winning these two huge games,” stated head coach Vince Granberry. “It shows what hard work can do for you when your team begins to believe in themselves.”

Franklin County 8
The Indians held off a ferocious 7th inning rally to beat the Bulldogs 9-8. Houston Collins picked up the win for the Indians with a little help from reliever Gabriel Gray, who notched the save. Collins and Gray combined for 6 strikeouts and allowed ten hits.
Gray led the offensive charge with a home run and three singles. He also drove in 3 runs on the day. Jarvis Warner had three hits and two RBI, including a double. Marcus Jordan smashed two singles. Jonkil Skipper lashed a two run double, and Jervarus Banks drove in a run.
Hazlehurst 12,
Franklin County 11
The Indians won in 9 innings by out-scoring the Bulldogs 3-2 in the ninth. Gabriel Gray picked up the win in relief of Marcus Jordan. Gray finished with 7 strikeouts and three walks.
Marcus Jordan led Hazlehurst with a five hit performance and two RBI’s. Willie Ervin had two hits including a one run double. Jarvis Warner had a double and a single/ Davonte McKenzie, John Bridges, Jervarus Banks and Jonkil Skipper singled.
Port Gibson 9, Hazlehurst 6
The error bug attacked the Indians with 7 miscues. The Indians dropped a very winnable game over the Port Gibson Blue Wave. Kenny Coleman’s 7 strikeout performance was wasted as he picked up the loss.
Marcus Jordan led with two triples. Jarvis Warner had a single and a double in the loss.
The Indians have a district showdown with Jefferson County this week starting Tuesday at Hazlehurst.
