Accidents claim one life, send three to hospital

Accidents claimed the life of one county resident and sent three others to the hospital with  injuries.
Colie Dixon, 87, died in a two-car collision that occurred in Georgetown on Monday, January 16.
Dixon and Larry Garrett were traveling north on Highway 27  when a silver GMC Sierra collided with their vehicle.
Royce Rials of Crystal Springs was driving the Sierra.
According to authorities, Rials struck Dixon’s vehicle on the driver’s side as he turned onto Hwy. 27 from Lee Avenue.
Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stuart said that all three men sustained injuries in the accident. All three were taken to Hardy-Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst.  Stuart pronounced Dixon dead at 2:35 p.m.
Garrett is Dixon’s son-in-law. He and Rials were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
 In a separate accident early Friday morning, Hazlehurst resident Larry Ried was traveling west on Hwy. 28 when he was involved in a one car accident. Reid received major injuries and is listed in critical condition in a hospital in Jackson.
The accident occurred near Stewart’s Body Shop east of Hazlehurst and remains under investigation.
Reid is a First Elder  in the Orion SDA Church.
