Cobras, Lady Cobras advance to south state 2A

The Wesson boys claimed the runner-up spot in the Region 7-2A tournament on Friday night, losing to regular-season champ Bassfield, 91-48.   High scorers for Wesson were Patrick Lumley with 14 and Terry Brown with 12.

Wesson defeated Amite County on Thursday night in the semi-final. Enterprise School in Lincoln County was the host.

The Cobras will host Eupora on Tuesday evening at 7:00 in the South State 2A first round.

In girls’ action, the Lady Cobras, by virtue of their second place region finish in the regular season, also qualified for the South 2A tournament, despite being swept in the 7-2A regional tournament.  Wesson, travels to East Webster tonight for a 6:00 tip-off. 

The Lady Cobras were defeated by Amite County, 53-50 on Thursday night and by Loyd Star 48-37 in Friday’s consolation game.  The Lady Hornets turned a tight 24-23 lead at the end of three quarters into a rout, doubling their score in the fourth period.  Mak Rials was the only Lady Cobra that scored in double figures with 13.
