Copiah teams advance in south state tourney
The three remaining area teams in the state basketball playoffs all won Thursday night.
At the 3A south state tourney in Crystal Springs, Hazlehurst knocked off Seminary 56-41. The Indians exploded for 41 points combined in the second and third quarters to win going away. Dedrick Reese led the Indians with 13 points, followed by Javarus Banks with 12 and Willie Erving with 11.
Hazlehurst advances to face Kemper County in the bracket finals tonight at 6:00. Kemper defeated McLaurin 76-52 on Thursday.
In the other boys game last night, the Crystal Springs Tigers finished off the Forest Bearcats in overtime, winning 54-51. Tied at 46 at the end of regulation, the Tigers reeled off 8 in the extra period and held Forest to 5. Adarius Miles had a game-high 23 for Crystal Springs. Jerekius Davis added 14.
The Tigers will face Bailey tonight at 7:30. Bailey knocked off Heidelberg 52-37 on Thursday night.
2A SOUTH STATE AT BAY SPRINGS
The Wesson Cobras are still standing in the south 2A, having defeated Union High School 80-55 last night The Cobras took an 11 point halftime lead at 40-29, then turned the faucets on in the second half to claim the 25 point win.
JyMetrius Sutton led five Cobras in double figures with 16 points. He was 8-for-8 at the free throw line. James Clay and Ferrod Green added 13 each, Terry Brown, 12, and Patrick Lumley 10.
The Cobras will face Bay Springs in the bracket final tonight at 7:30. Bay Springs defeated Amite County 64-39 on Thursday evening.
