Ducomb coaches South to All-Star win

Copiah Academy seniors (left to right) Brandon Baker and Adam Pitts were named to the South team at last week’s MAIS All-Star soccer game at Jackson Academy. The team was coached by CA head coach Phillip Ducomb. Baker scored late in the first half to give his team a 4-1 lead. The South hung on to beat the North 5-4 as both Copiah players saw plenty of action.

Like last year, Copiah Academy boys soccer coach Phillip Ducomb was chosen to coach the South team at last Thursday’s MAIS All-Star soccer game in Jackson – and for the second year in a row, he coached the team to victory.
In a game that was moved up due to the impending weather forecast, the South jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead and then hung on for a 5-4 win over their North counterparts.
CA’s Brandon Baker scored a goal that put his team up 4-1 with 4 minutes remaining in the first half. Senior teammate Adam Pitts played most of the game on defense, but did manage a shot on goal with a header in the second half.
“Brandon’s goal was on an indirect kick just outside the penalty box,” Ducomb said. “Both he and Adam had a substantial amount of playing time, and both played extremely well.”
