Wesson Cobra baseball earned another post-season series win, knocking of Enterprise-Clarke in three games over the weekend.

The Cobras broke open a scoreless game in the top of the third with four runs at Ent.-Clarke on Friday night.  Wesson added an insurance run in the top of seventh.

All seven of Wesson’s hits were singles.  Kaleb Skinner and Bailey Warren had two each.  The visitors capitalized on 3 Bulldog errors.

Most importantly, Warren pitched the entire game and earned the shutout for the Cobras.  Warren scattered 5 hits, struck out seven and allowed only one walk.

Trailing 10-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Cobras mounted a comeback that fell just short of tying the Bulldogs in the Saturday afternoon game at Wesson.

Enterprise led 3-2 after three innings, then plated 5 in the top of the 4th and one each in the 5th and 6th innings to gain a 10-2 lead heading into Wesson’s final at bat.

The Cobras strung together seven runs in the inning, hitting the ball and running bases well, before Bulldog pitching was able to shut the door.

Skinner took the loss for Wesson on the mound.  His defense committed four errors behind him, aiding the Bulldog’s cause.  The Bulldogs homered twice, also.

On offense, Payton Cupit homered for the first time in his career and singled to lead Wesson.  Warren collected 3 hits.  Skinner, Alex Smith and Quentin Munn added two hits each.

WESSON 7, EC 6, 8 innings
The Cobras were on the brink of elimination after Ent.-Clarke scored in the top of the 8th to lead 6-5.  Wesson, however, plated two in the bottom of the inning to win.  Bulldog pitcher Judd Clinton walked in the winning run with bases loaded.

Alex Smith got the win on the mound after relieving starter Zach Stafford, who last 4.1 innings and trailed 4-3 when he left the game.  Smith struck out 6 over the final four innings and gave up only two runs.  The sloppy game saw Wesson commit three errors and E. C., four.

Paxton Cupit led the way with four hits, including a double for the Cobras.  Four others hit safely one time each for Wesson.

Wesson, 14-11, advanced to face East Webster High School, which is located in Maben, Miss.  East Webster won Region 5-2A with an 8-1 record and earned a bye last week.  Overall the Wolverines are 17-7.  The teams play in Maben on Thursday, then in Wesson on Friday.  A third game, if necessary, will be played in Maben on Saturday.
