Wesson advances in south 2A’s with series win over East Webster

Wesson’s trip to East Webster on Thursday turned into a 9-inning marathon that was won in the bottom of the 9th by the Wolverines in the first game of the MHSAA South 2A quarterfinals.

Facing elimination on Friday night in Wesson, the Cobras got a superb complete-game performance from pitcher Alex Smith and won 1-0 over East Webster to extend the Best-of-3 series into Saturday.

Wesson took inspiration from Smith’s gutty outing on Friday night and pounded the Wolverines 11-1 in five innings on Saturday to win the south 2A series.  The game featured a two-run homer by Payton Cupit to open the flood gates for the Cobras.
