Southern Pine says expect outages this afternoon in Copiah County

Southern Pine Electric Power Association members in the Monticello and southern Copiah County area can expect an outage later today due to a problem with a transmission line.  Earlier today, a routine aerial patrol spotted a broken cross-arm on the transmission line that feeds Southern Pine’s Monticello substation.

Ground crews have inspected the breakdown and say it’s too dangerous to repair with the line energized. The outage is scheduled to begin around 4 p.m. However, if the line moves slightly before then, it may trip the protective devices and cause an outage earlier.

If that happens, the repairs will be done immediately.  If all goes well, the repairs should take less than two hours.
