Wesson netters compete at state 2A’s

Three of the individual Wesson Cobra tennis teams played on Monday in the State 2A Tennis Tournament at Mississippi College in Clinton. Brandon Nettles in boys singles and Josh Smith and Abigail Schimmel in mixed doubles posted first round wins and advanced in the semifinals. The Wesson’s boys doubles team of Zach Wilson and Cullen Greer forced a three set tie breaker before losing to Samuel Butler and John Champion of East Webster.
Wesson’s Brandon Nettles defeated East Webster’s Alex Vaughn in a three set match that lasted over three hours but failed to advance past the defending state champion John Crammer from St. Joe. Josh Smith and Abigail Schimmel defeated the Clarkdale mixed doubles team before losing to Wesley Champion and Molly Davis from East Webster.
The Wesson team lost in the 2A team tennis finals to St. Joseph’s 7-0 on Wednesday.
