Three Copiah boys in national baseball tournament

LOCAL BOYS USSSA 12U NATIONAL SERIES

Jeremy Smith, Maddox Henry, and Will Lingle, all of Crystal Springs, are playing for the Central Mississippi Reds (37-9) in the USSSA Elite 32 Baseball tournament this week at ESPN Sportsplex at Walt Disney World. The team won a 12U Major League Super NIT in Shreveport to qualify earlier in the month.  They also finished the regular season in first place in the State Tournament in Tupelo.
In pool play at the National Series, the Reds defeated the Pennsylvania Wolverines on Sunday, 3-1.  On Monday the team stumbled, losing 8-1 to the Florida Piranaz after a lengthy rain delay forced officials to call the game early.  The Reds defeated  El Paso, TX Bombers on Tuesday, hitting three homers in the 9-2 victory.  Again, the game was called early because of a lengthy rain delay.
After finishing pool play with a 2-1 record, the Reds have been seeded 8th and will play at 11 a.m. CDT today against the Cedar Rapids, IA Perfect Game, which finished pool play 0-3 and is seeded 27th.  The winner plays Thursday at 7 a.m. CDT.  The loser plays today at 6 p.m. CDT.
Crystal Springs resident Wayne Henry, Maddox’s dad, is one of the team’s coaches.
