Fire drill takes Hazlehurst business by surprise

Downtown Hazlehurst was abuzz with all sorts of rumors of a fire burning in one of the buildings on Friday.  Employees of Copiah Bank were even evacuated through front and rear entrances as fire fighters and other emergency personnel filed through the building on Caldwell Drive.
The whole affair turned out to be a preparedness drill conducted by Copiah County Emergency Management Agency.  Even the bank’s employees were unaware of the drill until after the evacuation.
