Indians, Tigers, Cobras all win on Friday night

Week Two of high school football is in the record books, and two teams in the area are undefeated, while one picked up its first win and one remains winless.

Hazlehurst traveled to Heidelberg on Friday night and continued its dominance over the Oilers, winning 40-8. The win was the third in the past two seasons by the Indians over Heidelberg and moved Hazlehurst to a record of 2-0.  The Brookhaven Panthers, 34-7 winners over Lawrence County on Thursday night, are coming to McDaniel Stadium this coming Friday night for a 7:30 kickoff.

The North Pike Jaguars became the second larger-school victim of the scrappy 2A Wesson Cobras on Friday night.  Wesson defeated the 4A Jags 26-7 to improve to 2-0 after defeating 3A Crystal Springs in Week One.  The Cobras are back on the road next Friday against Mize, 2-0, and 33-0 winners over Mt. Olive on Friday, at 7:30 p.m.

The Tigers of Crystal Springs picked up their first win, taking Florence to overtime in the 14-7 decision.  Crystal Springs improves to 1-1 and travels to Richland next Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Finally, Brookhaven Academy proved to be an inhospitable host in the Cougars’ 20-6 defeat of the Copiah Academy Colonels on Friday night.  The Colonels, 0-2, will continue searching for their first win as they host Central Hinds for Homecoming next Friday night.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00.
