The Copiah Academy Lady Colonels won all 6 of their games last week, including 5 on Saturday as they took first place at the Co-Lin Tournament in Wesson. CA’s record is now 25-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
On Labor Day, Copiah exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the fourth to beat the Jackson Prep Lady Patriots 11-7 in Gallman. Kaitlyn Taylor (11-0) went the distance and helped her own cause with a triple in the third inning.
Victoria Allen had 3 RBI’s for the winners and a pair of hits, including a bases-loaded double in the fourth. Teammate Jordan Jones contributed a triple and a 2-run double, while Kamryn Vanlandingham had a pair of doubles.
In the first game of the Co-Lin Tourney, the Lady Colonels avenged one of their two losses this season as they annihilated Columbia Academy 18-4 in three innings. Kaitlyn Taylor (12-0) picked up the victory and helped herself with a pair of hits, including a double.
Jordan Jones led Copiah with 4 RBI’s and 3 hits, including a double. Teammate Cassidy Brown also had 3 hits and drove in a pair of runs. Kamryn Vanlandingham chipped in with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s, while Kaitlin Cooksey had a double, single, and 2 RBI’s. Kaitlyn Taylor also had a single and a double, while Lindsey Walker contributed a pair of singles. Actually, 6 of Copiah’s 9 starters had multiple hits as the team banged out a total of 17 hits.
In their next game, Lindsey Walker (3-1) pitched a one-hitter as the Lady Colonels blanked Simpson Academy 13-0. She also helped her own cause with a 2-run double. Other offensive stars included Carleigh Roberts with 3 RBI’s, Kelli Berry with a pair of RBI’s, Kamryn Vanlandingham with 3 hits, Jordan Jones with a double and triple, Victoria Allen with a pair of hits and 2 RBI’s, and Cassidy Brown with 2 hits, including a double. Kaitlyn Taylor also had a double for the winners.
The Lady Colonels got their second straight double-digit shutout as they blanked the Amite School Lady Rebels 11-0 in four innings. Jordan Jones (8-1) picked up the victory. Offensive stars included Kaitlin Cooksey with 3 RBI’s on 3 hits, including a 2-run double in the bottom of the third. Kamryn Vanlandingham led the team with 4 RBI’s on a pair of hits, including a 2-run double in the second. Lindsey Walker also had a 2-run double for the winners.
In the next tournament game, Lindsey Walker singled home what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the fourth as the Lady Colonels nipped Parklane Academy 5-4. Kaitlyn Taylor (13-0) remained undefeated and got plenty of offensive support from Kamryn Vanlandingham, who had 3 hits including a double.
Copiah jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 3 innings and went on to whip Centreville Academy 8-3 in the championship game at the Co-Lin Tourney last Saturday. Jordan Jones (9-1) was the winning pitcher and helped her own cause with 3 RBI’s and 4 hits, including a pair of doubles. Kelli Berry also had 2 hits, a 2-run single in the top of the first and an RBI-single in the third. In addition, Lindsey Walker had a double for the winners.
Longtime Copiah head coach Terry Bauer was pleased with his team’s play, and after a look at the tournament stats, one can understand why. In 5 games, CA scored 55 runs and pounded out 56 hits, including 16 doubles and a triple. The Lady Colonels batted .467 and had a .549 OBP. Meanwhile, Copiah pitchers gave up only 11 runs and 19 hits.
CA will face Parklane twice this week in two key district games and then participate in the Jackson Prep Tournament this Saturday.
