Area homeowners with structural damage from Isaac could see relief from FEMA

This home on Jackson Street in Hazlehurst was destroyed by a felled tree during Isaac and is an example of what could be eligible for assistance from FEMA.

Those in the county whose property suffered structural damage when Tropical Storm Isaac passed through here in late August may be in line for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to a statement made by Copiah County Emergency Management Director Randle Drane yesterday.
“We are going to apply to FEMA to see if we can get some help for those who suffered property damage to structures-homes and businesses.  But, we need those folks to register with FEMA immediately,” Drane explained.
“Those that only lost power and suffered no structural damage need not apply.  Only those with structural damage should register,” Drane added.  “FEMA will not provide individual assistance unless your property has been damaged.”
Registration is available in a number of ways.  Call (800) 621-3362,apply online at disasterassistance.gov or apply via smartphone at m.fema.gov.
