BREAKING NEWS: INDIANS DEFEAT WEST MARION 39-16
The Hazlehurst Indians (15-0) defeated West Marion here tonight 39-16 in the south 3A championship game and advance to the 3A state championship game against Charleston, 42-0 winners over East Side tonight in the north 3A title game. West Marion fell to 13-1.
The two teams met in the 2011 title game, with Charleston winning. The trip to Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium’s Butch Lambert Field next Saturday will be the third for the Indians, all in the last 8 years.
Senior running back Demetrius Cain carried 13 times for 148 yards and 2 TD’s. Senior QB Kenneth Coleman ran for a score and threw a touchdown to junior WR Dedric Reese. Coleman passed for over 200 yards. Reese finished with 5 catches for 65 yards.
A press conference will be held in Jackson on Monday at the MHSAA offices for all teams competing in the football finals. The Indians and Charleston kickoff at 11:30 a.m. Read more in this week’s Copiah County Courier.
