Long-time election commissioners honored with retirement affair

A retirement celebration was held on Friday, December 28 at the Copiah County Courthouse in Hazlehurst in honor of two election commissioners, Honorable Maudell Weeks. (Dist. 2) and Kitty Scarbrough (Dist. 5)
 The event was attended by a cadre of county officials, family, friends, and employees who have worked with the ladies for years.  Weeks retired after 28 years, while Scarbrough served eight.

Pictured  above on the front row, from left, are Maudell Weeks, Circuit Court Clerk Edna Stevens, and Kitty Scrabrough. On the back row, from left, are Supervisors Earl Dixon (Dist. 1), Kenneth Powell (Dist. 4), Terry Channell (Dist. 2), Perry Hood (Dist. 3) and Jimmy Phillips, (Dist. 5).   Two new election commissioners were elected on November 6: Frances B. Taylor in Dist. 2 and Beverly Hood in Dist. 5. 

Taylor and Hood were sworn in on Thursday, January 3.
