Hazlehurst Police officer killed in off-duty accident

Hazlehurst police officer Christopher Washington, 27, was killed early Sunday morning in a one vehicle accident near the Savannah Street exit in south Jackson, Jackson police said. 
Washington lost control of his vehicle and struck a metal utility pole.
Several friends and relatives have been posting memories of Christopher on his Facebook page, talking about good times past.  Mostly, those that posted were in shock over his death.
Washington had worked for Hazlehurst Police off and on for several years, having recently been re-hired, according to a spokesman for HPD.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time.
