Public involvement led  to the arrest of three men from Jackson for hawking Apple rip-offs in Hazlehurst on Wednesday night, January 3.
According to Chief of Police Byron Swilley, ”We received an anonymous call that led to the arrest. This is the kind of partnership we need with our citizens and helps make our jobs easier and our city safer.”
The call came in between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
“Field Training Officer (FTO) Ronnie Murray made initial contact with the men at BP convenience store on Caldwell Drive. Sargent Bonnie Ross was the back-up officer on the call,” stated HPD Investigator Al Farrish, Jr.
“Murray asked the driver if he could look inside the car. The driver gave him permission, and that’s when Murray found the fakes,” continued Investigator Farrish.
The three men, Demarvius Dire Alexander, James Marques Howard, Jr. and Javonta Lacey, addresses not given, were arrested and charged with sale of counterfeit goods, Farish said, and are being held in Copiah County Detention Center pending an initial hearing in city court.
