Log truck overturns on Hwy. 28

Workers from a private wrecker service work to pull logs from the trailer of an overturned log truck on Hwy. 28 east of Hazlehurst on Friday. The driver of the log truck suffered only minor injuries, according to a Mississippi Highway Patrol officer that was on the scene.

Mississippi Highway Patrol said that the driver of a log truck that overturned on Hwy. 28 about 5 miles east of Hazlehurst this morning suffered slight injuries and was transported to Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital.
Eric Harvey, Trooper 1st Class with MHP, said that the west-bound log truck veered into the ditch to avoid another 18 wheeler that was attempting to make a u-turn in the driveway of the Klondike property.
“The driver of the truck that was a making the u-turn did not see the log truck,” Harvey said, and has been issued a misdemeanor citation.  “No criminal charges will brought,” Harvey said.
Larry Coleman of Pinola was driving the log truck and could only veer into the ditch, Harvey explained. The driver of the other truck was uninjured.
Agents from Miss. Department of Transportation, Copiah County Sheriff’s Office, Copiah County Emergency Management and Mississippi Highway Patrol stayed on the scene, as a heavy-duty wrecker pulled the logs out of the the ditch.  A knuckle boom was brought in to load the logs onto another trailer.  The wrecker will set the overturned rig upright and haul it to a repair yard.
Traffic in that area of Hwy. 28 was light and was flowing through the scene smoothly.
