Gus was a little sad that Bassfield squeaked by Hazlehurst on Friday night. The 20-game win streak is over, so its time to start a new one this week against Port Gibson.
That bunch of Yellow Jackets is every bit as good as advertised, give them credit for holding off a fierce Indian comeback bid in their 21-20 win.
Speaking of streaks, poor ol’ Wesson is on the wrong end of one. Now at 0-5 in 2013, the Cobras haven’t won a game since knocking off Puckett to end the regular season in 2012. After losing to Bay Springs the following week, Wesson is 0-6 since their last win. Coach Greer and the team get a week off before heading 10 miles north to play Hazlehurst on October 5, the first week of region play.
The only other school in Copiah County that can top Wesson’s losing streak is Crystal Springs, who is 0-5 in 2013 and lost their last 6 of 2012. Talented and fast, the Tigers can’t put together a complete game. Rest assured, when they do the other team will get blasted. Maybe this Friday night’s game with McLaurin is the cure.
The Copiah Colonels are on a 2 game losing streak since defeating Hillcrest in the third week of the season, and is 2-14 since the beginning of the 2012 season. Coach Scotty Cline and the Colonels play Lamar, 4-1, in Gallman on Friday night.
The Co-Lin Wolves have a mighty fine 4-0 start to 2013 and look like a shoo-in for the playoffs. They’ll get a good test this week versus Jones.
Hazlehurst beats Port Gibson 34-9.
Crystal Springs gets win uno over McLaurin, 29-18.
Lamar blasts Copiah (name your score) to 6.
Co-Lin squeaks by Jones 24-22.
In college, Bama rolls up Ole Miss 35-16.
Boise State keeps Southern Miss’ streak alive at 0-17, winning 44-24.
Jackson State claws Southern U. Jaguars 38-7.
Delta State hurts Florida Tech 55-10.
