Wesson visits Hazlehurst to open Region 7-3A play on Friday

In what is believed to be the first football match-up for the two schools since 1943, Wesson travels to Hazlehurst on Friday night to kickoff Region 7-3A play.  The Cobras, 0-5, are searching for their first win, while the Indians, 4-1, are coming off a narrow 21-20 loss to then-unbeaten Bassfield on September 20.  Both teams were open last week.

The story within the story, however, is two-fold.  Not only is this a historic match-up with a deep Copiah County connection, but also the contest pits former player against former coach.  Hazlehurst head coach Randal Montgomery, a 1995 alum of Wesson Attendance Center, played for Wesson Cobra head coach Ronald Greer for two seasons.
