Copiah student headed to RCA rodeo finals

Leah Thompson, 10 of Hazlehurst, a fourth grader at Copiah Academy has qualified for the barrel racing finals of the Real Cowboys Association.  The event takes place Saturday, November 16 at Bossier City, LA in the Century Link Center.

She is currently in third place and only a few points behind second place.  Leah has already won 32 buckles in the 5 years of competition, along with many other prizes, while competing in youth rodeos, barrel races and other rodeo events. 

She is the daughter of Kevin and Christy Thompson of Hazlehurst, and the granddaughter of Patsy Whalen of Wesson and the late Sidney and Helen Thompson of Centerpoint community.  She is coached by Patty Joe Higdon of Terry, who has helped Leah overcome many obstacles over the two years she’s been coaching.  Leah rides Star, a quarter horse that is 12 years old.
