Mississippi native makes history in North Carolina

Jada Miyon Tillman of Brookhaven, who now lives in Charlotte, NC, won the Miss Uptown Charlotte USA pageant on June 14. She became the first African American to win this crown.

On Oct. 10, Tillman will be entering the Miss North Carolina pageant which could qualify her for the Miss USA pageant

She is the daughter of Derrick Davis of Hazlehurst and Latasha Tillman of Brookhaven. Her grandparents are Bernita Dixon of Hazlehurst, Kenneth Davis of Harrisville and Glen and Emma Rufus of Brookhaven. Great grandmother is Lena Mae Dixon of Hazlehurst.
